Beware what you say and put on social media.
Never announce that you are going on holiday , away for the day , where you are (don’t allow facebook to show where you are) don’t send photos of yourself on holiday.
You don’t know who is seeing these and you are inviting trouble.
You risk the possibility of your insurance claim being thrown out because you are have not done enough to guard against a Theft by making such information public. All Insurance policies have a reasonable precautions clause in them and the Financial Ombudsman is concerned that many policyholders do not realise that insurers might check their Social Media accounts. He goes on to say that it is possible that your Insurance could be void if you explicitly announced your plans on Social Media.
The Association of British Insurers have said that no Insurer has rejected a home cover claim on the basis of a Social Media Post to date . Our view at RMK Insurance is that why take the chance, after all whilst Insurance may replace items it cannot replace memories , items with sentiment , photo’s etc and it cannot deal with the distress.
When I mentioned this to a client the other day they mentioned that their mum was house sitting for them. This is great from an insurance point of view but somebody thinking you are away and breaking in to be confronted by your mum may not turn out well.
Post your pictures and comments when you get back, those who you want to know you are away you would have told. Don’t tell the world.
Please feel free to pass this on to any of your friends who always tell the world that they are not at home.
