Please be aware that most travel policies are restricting cover connected to Coronavirus and some insurers are not offering any cover at the present time.
Typically –
There is no cover for cancellation, abandonment or curtailment claims if the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) advises you not to travel, for example where the FCO advise against all but essential travel to an area affected by Coronavirus, COVID-19, Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-COV-2) or any mutation of Coronavirus, COVID-19 or SARs-COV-2.
There is no cover for any claims as a result of Coronavirus, COVID-19, Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-COV-2), any mutation of Coronavirus, COVID-19 or SARs-COV-2 or any pandemic or fear or threat of any the above. Except for Medical & repatriation expenses. This will only apply if you did not travel against the published advice of the FCO, any local government, local authority or WHO.
Policies sold from 28 July 2020 by DTW will include cover for COVID-19 under the Medical Expenses and Cancellation/Curtailment sections of the policy. Cover is available in the following circumstances:
- Medical Expenses: If an insured person needs emergency medical treatment whilst on a trip
- Cancellation: Only if an insured person (named on the certificate) tests positive for COVID-19 in the two weeks prior to travel and has to cancel their holiday
- Curtailment: Only if an insured person (named on the certificate) tests positive for COVID-19 whilst on a trip
